Choose the Right Flowers

If you could splurge on a houseful of flowers, what would they be? I like to buy long-lasting flowers, such as orchids, amaryllis, and lilies. These are usually more expensive, but I think they are the best value. For the bathroom, I have scented flowers, such as freesia, hyacinth, or sweet peas, and roses or ranunculus for my table.Lately people are cutting back on the extras. How can one keep fresh flowers in the house without breaking the bank? Keep them cool, change the water each day, and recut the stems. Pick more expensive flowers, such as lilies and orchids, as they often last longer and are a better value. And buy locally grown, seasonal flowers from the farmers market; they tend to be less expensive. What types of traditional vases should you always keep on hand for arranging flowers at home? Most flower stems are around 24 inches, so I advise using vases at least 6 inches tall. My favorite vases are 6- and 8-inch cubes and tall cylinders. I also like round containers with narrower necks, such as fishbowl shapes, and footed urns are good for dining tables.
